The business was established in December 1978 by Dave Templing and Steve Watts as Haven Pianos and Organs. In a fiercely competitive market, the shop's longevity can be put down to the fact that Dave had nowhere else to go. And possibly that there is a great emphasis on good, old fashioned quality customer service. This tradition has ensured that many of the shop's customers have literally grown up with the shop! Though the market trends have changed over the years from being organ focused to keyboard focused, acoustic piano favoured to digital, the range of stock on offer is possibly greater than ever. As the main dealer for Hammond, SR and Ketron in the area, customers can be assured of professional, specialist advice for these as well as Yamaha and Casio keyboards and Roland and Casio digital pianos. Plus a range of second hand bargains that pass through the door regularly! In addition to sales and service, keyboard, piano and organ lessons are also available in the separate teaching studio at the back of the shop. Providing lessons on a one-on-one basis, the week is split between two teachers and is a very busy focus for the shop. Today, Haven Keyboards is run by Dave as sole proprietor. In addition to his shop-keeping duties, he still gigs regularly as a sequence dance organist in various venues around East Anglia, playing civilised music to civilised audiences. His main loves are Hammond organs, jazz, BMW cars and Kylie Minogue. Birthday in early July (all gifts gratefully accepted).
It is with deep regret that we make note of the passing over of Tony the Faithful Igor to the Dark Side, ie. he's moved away to Liverpool. We haven't seen the last of him but his days of being a regular weekly fixture are gone! Tony would like to thank all the people that he feels he has been privileged to meet through his tenure at Haven Keyboards, and Dave would like to thank the same people for putting up with Tony. Astute people may also notice Dave has now changed the complaints address to some place on Merseyside ;-) As a result of Tony's rather selfish move, we need to inform customers that the shop will be CLOSED ON A WEDNESDAY FROM NOW ON. We hope this doesn't inconvenience anyone but if it does, blame Tony ;-)
